CurlTech Over-Riding Principles
All CurlTech program content is based on a few simple principles:
1. Play the game the right way.
2. Always think like a team member.
3. Delivery and Sweeping mechanics, team systems and strategy.
Play the game the right way.
Consistent with the “Spirit of Curling”.
Always think like a team member.
Curling is the ultimate team sport where every player is directly involved with every shot. Always think like a team member by defining your game to blend with other teammates.
Proper Mechanics- Delivery, Sweeping, Systems and Strategy.
Delivery
Goal: 100% of your fluid energy stays on the line of delivery.
Throwing the rock is obviously a main priority because it applies to ALL curlers. The goal here is to consistently make shots throughout the game and event, regardless of conditions, fatigue and anxiety levels. To do this, fluid energy movement (achieved through tempo and foot delay) with all energy moving down the line of delivery (achieved through balance and a proper release) will allow you to consistently deliver the rock for team success regardless of playing conditions and stress (mental and physical).
Delivery Mechanics (team based for all levels of play)
Balanced, flat-footed with tempo (fluid motion).
Positive, energy-forward release.
Fluid motion with “long twitch” movements (stays consistent with the wide range of physical and mental states).
Sweeping
Goal: Maximum head pressure, proper head speed while judging and communicating.
Sweeping also applies to ALL curlers, some more than others. The sweeping goal is to be effective, efficient and smart.
Sweeping Mechanics (team based, all levels)
Open stance.
Over/under grip – Roughly 18”
Drive from the top shoulder.
Double grippers.
Versatile (sweeping open on both sides).
Proper directional (see Directional Sweeping in the Sweeping section).
Power Stroke concept.
Team Systems
A curling team system is a group of related items needed to complete a task. It could be complex like the delivery or directional sweeping or as simple as assigning roles and responsibilities to team members. The important part of team systems is defining them, agreeing on them, the executing them.
Strategy
Goal: Plan and execute for success.
Strategy Mechanics
Plan your game first, then plan each end.
Only four possible outcomes.
Know when to switch.
